Final Pledge Drive Raffle Winners Announced!
Parent Teacher Conferences take place the week of November 15. During that week TK-6th grades will have minimum days on Tuesday, November 16 and Thursday November 18. SDC Preschool will follow their regular schedule on those days. There will be no school for all grades on Wednesday, November 17. During these days and times teachers will be meeting with parents. Teachers will email you about signing up for conferences.
Scientific inspiration can come from anywhere! Our PTO STEAM Team has come up with a fun little experiment while sitting at the breakfast table this week. You are invited to form your own hypothesis on what you think the results will be!
After being on the fritz for nearly two years, we are happy to announce that our school marquee sign is working again! Despite several attempts to determine and fix the problem, it turns out a broken antenna was causing the issue. Principal Greenfield unveiled one of his hidden talents in the process when he installed the new antenna and was able to get the sign to display correctly again.
October 25 kicks off our annual Battle of the Books (BOB) competition. Earlier in the year, our 3rd and 4th grade students and our 5th and 6th grade student formed teams of 4 to 6 students with the goal of competing and winning the BOB tournament. See post for schedule of battles.

In preparing for the winter/rainy season ahead remember the saying "no bad weather, only bad clothing." Kids should be prepared for rainy days outside. This means waterproof boots, waterproof overcoats, hats, mittens, and umbrellas. Our goal is to balance the physical activity our students need to release during the day and be ready to learn while keeping our students safe.
Drug Free Looks Like Me! This is the theme of the 2021 National Red Ribbon Week campaign. The Red Ribbon Campaign is the oldest and largest drug prevention program in the nation, reaching millions of young people.
We are in urgent need of at least one parent volunteer (ideally a team of 2) to lead the planning and execution of the Fall Book Fair. We have experienced leaders that are willing to support a new lead or lead team... but we need to find this lead now.
Kian G, a 6th grader at Silver Oak, just released his newest Eye of the Sabercat podcast. Episode 4 is done and can be found here along with all past episodes. In this episode, we hear about school events which had disappeared during the pandemic starting to make a comeback. We also hear from a new Kindergarten teacher, Ms. Anguiano, and veteran 6th grade teacher, Mrs. Neil. There are also interviews with Principal Greenfield, our favorite librarian, Mrs. Hokanson, a figure skating 6th grader, and a 5th grader with a prominent role in the upcoming school play.
