Kindergartners gave Mr. Daniel Munoz a warm welcome back to Silver Oak this week when he returned as our full-time daytime custodian. Mr. Daniel was our school's nighttime custodian from 2003-2008. Please join all of us in saying, "Welcome to Silver Oak!"

4th grade students are demonstrating jump rope tricks and skills during recess and lunch break to help Silver Oak students in 1st - 6th grades get ready for the March 29 Jump Rope for Life event. This event supports the American Heart Association's efforts to help prevent heart disease. Donation sheets were sent home in Friday folders last week and should be turned into school by Friday, April 14.

We have a winner! 4th grade, Mrs. Wong's class, with 272 box tops! A pizza party will be on the way! Runner up was Mrs. Weber class with 208. Great Job! Yearly totals so far keep Mr. Mahr's class in the lead by only 1 box top over Mrs. Richard's class. This will be a close finish!

Student Council is selling Smencils for $1 each during lunchtime on March 21, 23, 26 and 27. Supplies are limited. Students may only buy 10 per purchase and may not re-sell. Smencils will be delivered by March 29.

International Night takes off at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, March 22. Travel around the world in one evening to learn and experience the different cultures within our own Silver Oak school community. There will be performances, a costume parade, souvenirs, delicious food and lots of fun!

After ably running the PTO Birthday Book Club in recently years, parent coordinations Ramya Kumarasamy, Linda Kalna, and Tracy Garfinkel are ready to step down. The PTO is looking for a new coordinator (or small team) to run this popular, literacy-focused program. The current team is more than happy to pass on all necessary information about running the program.

Hundreds of students and parents made the 3rd Annual STEAM Night/Maker Faire a big success this year. The "Make your own Bouncy Ball" was by far the most popular station with kids of all ages following step-by-step instructions to create their own high and sometimes wild flying bouncy balls. Classroom and individual Science Fair projects were on display. Peer Foundation and Mathnasium added to the fun and learning!
