Bodies of Water on Earth
Posted 11/28/2017 11:39PM

5th grade started their unit of study on Earth's water. They were hooked on the topic after observing a demonstration using 5 gallons of water to represent all the water on the Earth.

Two cups of that represented fresh water. The remaining part of the five gallons represented all of the salt water on Earth.

One and a half cups of the two cups represented Frozen water. The last half cup represented fresh water and of that half cup only 5 drops are sustainable for plants and animals.

They followed it up with a math and geography lesson. Using a map of the Earth, they counted the surface area of the earth and counted out the amount of salt water, frozen water, and fresh water. They then created a graph to represent all the water on the Earth.
