Who is Your Plant Baby?
This month, first grade students observed our own plants to discover the answer to this big question: How are plants like their parents? Using a pumpkin, 1st grade students recorded observations on how young plants and animals are like, but not exactly like their parents. Through their observations, they were able to see that many characteristics of organisms are inherited from their parents and that individuals of the same kind of plant or animal are recognizable as similar but can also vary in many ways.

To start their science unit on sound, our first grade classes used PVC pipe to design and build a device that uses sound to solve the problem of communicating over distance.
