Attendance Matters

Recently, we have received an increased number of inquiries about extending vacations around this Thanksgiving break, winter recess in December, and February break. Please note that we follow specific attendance policies put in place by the state of California and Evergreen School District. If you are considering extended travel that impacts your child’s attendance at school, please make sure you understand these policies before making travel plans. Additionally, we request that you let our front office know several days prior to your child's absence. For more information on our attendance policy, please refer to this article.

Please get your tickets to enjoy the wonderful play the students of grades 4, 5, and 6 of Silver Oak Elementary have been working on for the last 3 months. All cast members will be performing in both the Thursday and Friday shows.

The Silver Oak Educational Partnership (SOEP) board consists of 9 voting members, each serving a two-year term. Half of the positions (4-5) change-over annually to ensure continuity of operations, and provide a yearly opportunity for Silver Oak parents to get involved on the board. Click on this story for more details and open board positions with shadowing opportunities during the 2024-2025 school year!

It's time to start studying for the 2025 Silver Oak Spelling Bee! This Spelling Bee contest offers all students in Grades 4 through 6 the chance to showcase their spelling prowess in a classic Spelling Bee contest in January. 

Important Dates:

  • Written Spelling Bee: January 8, 2025 (Wed) during regular school hours.
  • Oral Spelling Bee: January 16, 2025 (Thu)  1:00 - 3:00 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room.

ELPAC Parent Assessment Night

Join us for an informative Parent Information Night on December 3 from 6-7 p.m. to learn more about the English Learner (EL) process, from initial designation to reclassification.

You will gain valuable insights into the English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC), including the distinction between initial and summative tests. We will also explore the four key domains of language proficiency: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

How many absences are too many? Chronic absence is defined as 18 days a year—or just 2 days a month. Call your student's school office if you have questions about your student's attendance.

Silver Oak parents of all grade levels are invited to participate in the Parent Cafe held the first Thursday of each month at 10 a.m. The principal meets with parents to discuss educational issues of the day and factors impacting student achievement.
